November 7th-10th Weekly News
KINDERGARTEN WEEKLY NEWS
We welcomed a new student to our class this week! Welcome Sulvoris, we are very happy to have you in our wonderful kindergarten class!
This week our theme was how to stay healthy! We talked about exercising, the food pyramid and eating right, and about germs. We even have our very own science experiment taking place in our class room that our kindergarteners are observing. On Wednesday, we had three groups of students: one group washed their hands with soap and water, one group washed their hands with just soap, and one group didn’t wash their hands at all. Then, each separate group passed around peeled potatoes and we put them in separate bags. We predicted that the potatoes that were touched with the not washed hands and the hands only washed with water would go rotten. Now the potatoes are hanging in our classroom for us to observe each day. We will have the results of our experiment next week!
In reading, we learned a new sight word: “we.” Please work on finding this word with your child in books at home. All of the sight words we have learned so far include: I, a, is, and, can, was, will, we. It is great extra practice to have your child look for these words around the house. Also this week, we learned about the letter Dd. We learned what sound it made (duh), some words that start with Dd (we thought of 24), and how to write big “D” and little “d.” We made dinosaurs out of the big letter “D”, and as a class we wrote a story about a dinosaur (a copy is attached). Our kindergarteners really enjoyed working together to write our story. We sat on the rug as a group, and the kids told me the sentences to write to make our story. We will continue doing this throughout the year, and by the end of the year, each child will get their own book of all of our stories! We also learned how to write big “E” and little “e” this week. And we got to read our second whole book! We now know how to read two whole books! The first one is called “I Can Move” and the second one is called “At School”. Each child has a copy of each book and they will remain in our book boxes until the end of the school year.
In math this week, we are still working on counting and writing our numbers 0-5. We also learned how to do some graphing this week! The kids were very excited about graphing, and we will be graphing our science experiment I explained above for some extra practice! We will continue working on numbers 0-5, and then we will have a test on them next Wednesday. Please work with your child at home on writing their numbers 0-5. Number 2 and number 5 are the most tricky!
Thank you to all the parents who were able to come to conferences this week! I really enjoyed meeting all of you and getting the opportunity to talk about the amazing children you have raised. Your children are the reason that I love teaching so much. They brighten my day every day and I love coming to school and helping them learn and grow!
